- Moral: Winning is not everything, because competition can bring out the worst in you and sometimes rivals can become good friends.
- Also, this episode is similar to "Pepper Ann" episode "The Big Pencil" because both shows have the main characters competing with their rivals for the competition (Scott vs Eric Mark Kravitz for the spelling bee competition; Pepper Ann vs Alice Kane for the science fair).
- Scott having a large pot belly after binging on pizza at the end off-screen is similar to Milo Kamalani from Pepper Ann episode "Vanessa Less Tessa".
- The episode shares the same title as "The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh".
